Crochet and a Cold!

I coughed all day! I was afraid they were going to send me home but I got lucky.

I worked on my baby blanket for the shower. I can see I'm not going to get it done in time! I also need to make some small red baskets for Valentine's Day! I really want to have small gifts for the staff that help me so much. I think I need almost 40 to 50! I'm so crazy to want to do this!! I would really love to make a 100 of them so I can give them out to a lot of people! I'm going to make a few samples tonight and post them tomorrow.

Yesterday evening I made a small pom pom to go on my Bobble Tot Earflap Hat!

I made a small baby beret hat too! It looks so cute!!

This is the top! It's a pretty shade of pink!

Well I'm going to try out some valentine baskets!

Crochet

Today was very busy. I didn't get much done. I don't have time to put up my crochet plans tonight. I will try tomorrow. Oh! I did work on a tiny soft pink beret hat for a toddler! So cute! I put a pic up tomorrow!

New Baby Blanket Pattern!

Today was a very busy day! My brother and sister in law showed up at lunch and stayed several hours!
Didn't get any crocheting done but that's ok! Just very grateful they stayed so long! They brought lunch too! When we were done my other brother who rarely shows up just pops in the room!

Here is a pic of the new blanket pattern I'm going to use. It is so pretty!
The Etsy seller gave me this pattern for free! Plus 3 more!
So amazing! I really appreciate what she did!

Its called Sunday Evening Blanket.
I hope to start it tomorrow!

Busy Day!

I completed many projects today! I can't believe I got so lucky!

I finished both my pink hats. I think they look great!

This was a free pattern from Ravelry! It's called
Sunday Evening Beanie. By Julie Barber

I just couldn't get a good pic of this hat! I didn't have a baby doll
with the correct size head. It does look very cute in person!
This is the pattern called Bobble Tot Earflap Hat.

I have changed my mind on which baby blanket pattern I am going to use again! I will share the new one tomorrow!

Crochet Plans!

Yep! I need to make some crochet plans! I need to make a list of projects I want to start and complete!

I finished the tote I started yesterday!

It's only 6" tall not including handles.

I found a pattern last night to make the baby blanket with! I stumbled across an old super thin leaflet called "Beautiful Baby Blankets" its by House of White Birches. It has "7 Quick and Easy Baby Afghans". I'm doing the one called "Delicate Fans". It is shown in pink but I don't think the afghan is girly looking! So I'm doing it!!

I am finishing my pink hats and then I'm making a new list of crochet projects!

Yea for me!!!

Yea!

I felt so much better this morning! I went to nursing home and of course mom was just fine. By 11:00 I started coughing again and had watery eyes. Bummer. I went to doc after feeding mom lunch. He said what I already knew. I'm sick.

Today I started a new Toy Tote Bag with well-written instructions. I should have it finished tomorrow. I only have the handles and drawstring to finish. That won't take long!

Here's a pic of it almost finished.

It's 5 inches tall.

I thought I had found a pattern last night for the baby shower blanket but when I started it today it didn't look good at all. So tonight I will look for another one. Here's the pic.

It's green spots with an occasional dark odd shade of blue, maybe royal not really sure. Its called Rain Drops. That's a cool name! Mmmm...maybe a unique ice cream flavor called Rain Drops... I must be getting hungry! I still need to finish my pink hat I keep putting it off. I think I will try to finish it tonight.

Double Ugh!

Nothing to post tonight. Spent the day sleeping. I do hope I am stronger tomorrow. I need to get back to mom. Its been 2 days since I have been there. I miss my mommy!

Ugh!

I woke up this morning very, very, sick. I had to call nursing home and tell them I wasn't coming! I hate not going. I was supposed to go to a 3 year olds birthday party tonight! I was really looking forward to it. I hate to admit it but I don't have friends anymore. When I started taking care of my parents 7 years ago I didn't have time for them so I had to quit hanging out. Priorities come first, meaning my parents and my own immediate family. I just wanted to go and have some fun tonight! Talk to real adults! No sense in crying it won't change it. I have slept almost all day. No crochet today. Well I made my square for the day. Took me 4 hours stopping and starting. Ugh.

I got sick!

I coughed all night! I got up feeling weak and achy. I went to nursing home and put my head on mom's table she eats on and went back to sleep. Ugh! I finally went home at 1:15 pm because the nurse said I shouldn't be there looking so pale and coughing. Yuk!

I came home and laid on the couch and went to sleep! I finished my toy tote bag and I finished my shrek hat. I need to sew the ears on and I will do that later! Here is another picture of the tote bag!

It has cars in there! Just need to wrap it!

I crammed a bath towel in there! It is very large!

I need to find a baby afghan pattern to start my nieces baby shower blanket!
I found one for Jacob's afghan!

Sleepy Saturday!

Moms trying to catch the crud going around the nursing home, so weak. I laid her back down and she slept all day. I managed to wake her to eat lunch but she went right back out!
I worked on the shrek hat I need for Monday night's birthday party. I will finish it in the morning. It will only take an hour! Looks great! I will post a pic tomorrow!
Today I took some leftover crayon color yarns and made a quick and easy tote bag. I purchased some Hot Wheels cars to put in it so he can carry his toys with him when he goes somewhere! My son actually went and bought the cars for me. I just didn't have any time to spare!
I still need to sew the red handles on! I thought it looked cute!

Sick!

I woke up sick!!! YUK! I was sick 3 weeks ago with the crud, coughing hard and very weak and achy. Yes, I had my fricking flue shot! Its not protecting me from everything! In real life I don't whine so I shouldn't whine here! I left the nursing home at noon to go the two blocks to the grocery store, the entire section of meds for colds was EMPTY!!! I don't know why that surprised me! I did find 2 boxes of generic cold med and it said it was non drowsy but IT made me drowsy!

I kept mom on the hallway she lives on and we walked  at the end of the hall away from everybody! Then we stayed in her room a lot too. I didn't have a fever but I don't want to spread it! The last time I was sick the nurse sent me home for 2 days! Silently I was panicky because mom was alone all day and night! But the staff is very nice and they do a great job of taking care of her.

I only crocheted my square today. I just felt too bad to do anything!

3 camouflage hats completed!

Mom stayed in bed for 2 hours this morning! I was able to complete the 3 camouflage hats I had started. I found the guy that makes the floors look shiny and he tried them on and picked the one he liked best!

The 3rd hat was made with a different skein of camo and look how different it turned out! He wanted a hat like the one I made for someone else which is like the other 2 hats! But he picked the 3rd because it fit the best. I felt bad it didn't turn out like the other two! Bummer.

*************

Here is my last checklist. I need to look it over.

I need to make a checklist of my crochet projects to complete.
I need to make a checklist of my crochet projects to complete.

Alright...I think I am done! At least I feel better now that I wrote it all down and its not whirling around in my head making no sense!

Everything looks good! I'm almost done with the pink baby hat! I'm almost done with the shriek hat! I just have to finish up the 2 small blankets! I'm going to add another small blanket to the list and that's it!!! No pressure!!

So tired!

Mom was slow moving again. I finished my hat I was working on! It turned out very good for something on the wild and weird side. Gosh I'm too tired to complete my list tonight. Its almost 11 pm.

Crochet Time 8 Hours!

Mom was tired and weak today. She stayed in bed all day. I sat by her bed and crocheted for 8 hours. I crocheted slowly so my hands didn't hurt! I have this hat that has been in my head for Valentine's Day so I started it. I worked on it for 5 hours! It will take some time to make it! The hat isn't difficult to make just time consuming! Here is some pics of how it looks in the first few rounds!

Wavy!

Very Wavy!

I swear this is a hat!

Does this look like a hat?

I hope I get a little time to work on this tomorrow! I would like to finish it. I was going to make my new list of items to complete but I was at the nursing home for 11 hours. I'm a little tired.

Crochet Time!

Mom didn't feel good today! I don't like it when she is to weak to walk. She laid down 3 times today! I did get some crocheting time in! I got the new baby hat I'm working on 3/4ths done! I got my square done and I started a new hat for Valentines Day in red and white! I also worked on some crocheted hearts!

I need to make another list of what I still have to do! I think I will do it tomorrow!

Baby Hats!

Noel worked today! She absolutely loved the 3 baby hats!  I'm thankful! Tomorrow I will try to complete my camouflage hats and work on the pink hat for the nursing supervisor's baby girl! I purchased a very cute pattern for the baby hat. It was on Ravelry. Here's a pic of it.

So Slow Saturday!

Such a quiet day! I worked on a bunch of hats for residents! I need to build up my stash of hats! I have ZERO hats! I usually have at least 50!

I delivered my baby hats today, the shower is tonight and one of the nurses is ringing the gift! I had to use a red gift bag with snowflakes on it! I haven't had a need for baby shower gifts in years!! I got a feeling I better start to stock up!!!

I took them out of gift bag at nursing home and took this pic! I hope her daughter likes them!

Friday, January 14, 2011

I'm making progress!

I finished Noel's hat plus an extra one!

Tomorrow's Saturday I should be able to get something else done!

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Finished something!

What a busy day! I finished the hat I needed for the baby shower! I decided that I didn't want to make a normal, average, newborn hat so I created a "Newborn Happy Hat" ! I couldn't get good lighting tonight so I took it downstairs to the den and got a pic that looks a little better.

I hope she likes it!

Wednesday!

I almost finished my camo hat today! Just 3 more more rows! Ugh! It looks too big! (Kick me) I'm going to start a smaller size tonight. I'm also working on the pink baby hat tonight! I don't feel so much pressure tonight or today! I think writing it down helped!

Changing directions I just have to add this next subject because I don't have anyone to tell this too! I'm putting more details in my other blog but this is what happened today while at the nursing home with mom!

Mom's doctor saw me today. He shook my hand and said I was saintly. He said mom's walking and recovery is remarkable. My medicines did not make her well, you made her well. He said, you walk her, then you let her rest and recover, while you knit or crochet, you feed her good healthy food, you made your mom strong and healthy. Then he told mom she was blessed with a devoted daughter and was very lucky to have me.

I was not expecting him to say that! But it felt good to be acknowledged like that! If anybody is reading this, thanks for listening.

No Crochet Today!

Mom was so active today! I managed to crochet for 10 minutes today! I started digging for yarn today for the baby shower gift for niece. I'm going to do medium and dark green with Simply Soft. She will get a ton of blue things so I will change it up a bit! Now to decide on a pattern!

A Quiet Sunday

Mom wasn't feeling well so I worked on squares and a hat today. She wasn't up to walking around and visiting with the other residents. Tonight I need to go through my stash and find yarn for a baby blanket. My niece's baby shower isn't until February but I like to be ahead on my projects!

Newborn Hat

I started the newborn hat I need for Noel. Its over half done! Fortunately no one asked for anything to be made today! I started practicing my speech in the car! "I'm sorry I can't make anything for anybody at this time! Mom is very active and I don't have crochet time anymore!" AND that is the truth! (Big Smile!)

Crazy Crochet!

I can't believe how many projects I have! Noel a cna asked me to make a purple newborn hat for her daughter! She is having a baby shower in 2 weeks! Yikes! Mom is keeping me so busy at the nursing home that I have less than 45 minutes at best to crochet! I am behind on making my basic hats! Stress! Pressure! ;^)

Completed "Caring Hat"

I completed my caring hat this morning before going to nursing home. I forgot to take a picture! I was running late! Mom and I delivered it to her and she was excited to have a soft hat.

I also delivered a camouflage hat to Lawrence in Physical Therapy! Fit him perfectly!

I have another project! Tiffany in housekeeping invited me to her son's 3 year old birthday party! I am going to make him a Shrek hat! He loves Shrek!  I haven't been to Chuck e Cheese in over 15 or more years!

"Caring Hat"

Started my caring hat today, will finish in the morning!

I don't like to call hats for cancer patients chemo caps or hats. If you knew how poisonous chemo is to your body and how negative it feels you wouldn't call it that either. I like to show I care so I call it a caring hat!

Frustration

I should be in bed. It is 10:21 pm. I am tired but waiting on moms clothes to wash so I can dry them. She has 3 pairs of pants and 4 shirts there but I hate cutting it close. With 3 young adults in the home it is difficult to get a turn at the washing machine.

I am frustrated with my stash! Its not working for me anymore! For 3 years I have been using it and using it and using it! I am finally making a dent in it! I only know because I can no longer find several skeins of the same color or dye lot anymore.  I have hundreds of single skeins some full, some partially used and lots of tidbits of this and that hanging out in my storage crates.

I did not make a single afghan in 2010 because I did not have enough of any color or colors to use.   I take that back I made 2 round ripples. My oldest purchased the yarn to make one of them. His best friend was pregnant as he put it, I'm pretty sure it was the girlfriend that was preggers. I made a beautiful pink and brown afghan and got really lousy pictures of it. Crappy lighting! My other round ripple was made from Simply Soft Brights. I did not have enough of the colors I needed so I used what I had available. It was for a nurse who has been so wonderful to me and my mom at the nursing home. It was for her 3 year old daughter.

I have been used to being broke for over five years now. I have spent almost 6 to 7 years taking care of my parents in their own home. I had very little crochet time at all. The only items I made were afghans and doilys for my mother's blue living room. I made them all in less then 2 months. Her mind was leaving her so quickly I wanted her to have a few more happy moments of decorating her living room. (Alzheimers) She got so much pleasure out of that!  I may have been selfish and wanted those happy moments for me, just a few more memories before she left me for good. (crying is overrated sometimes, not feeling better at all)

2010 was one of the most difficult years I have ever had. I would rather have cancer again then go through so much pain and suffering. Watching a parent die is completely indescribable, or undescribable, I don't know which word is correct. But now here I am in this unique situation where I spend hour upon hour with my mom. She needs my care. I feel blessed and lucky that I am able to do this for her. But now I am looking for ways to fill those hours when she is sleeping or preoccupied with herself.

Crochet is soothing, it relaxes me, it makes me excited when I can create something precious for an individual in need. But my yarn stash is full of diverse skeins of yarn, many can't be combined together. Wools, acrylics, cottons, and unknown materials. I don't even have the word "natural fibers" in my vocabulary anymore. I have tasted it and saw that it was pleasing to my palate a hundred times over. You pay a premium price for taste, color, and flavor. I can't afford to go there.

When you live on dollars each month you choose yarn, eating, or meeting mom's needs each day. I chose meeting mom's needs. I have lost so much weight since I have been in this nursing home. My family hasn't noticed because they see me everyday. Spouser gives me dollars each month so I can buy the things I want or need but he doesn't know I have chosen to use it for my mom.

I think being so sick for the past five days or so has made me very sad or depressed. Looking at my yarn stash made me depressed. I want to make 3 afghans for the 3 nurses who diligently give quality care to my mom. I have always used crochet as an expression of showing how much I appreciate all you have done for me. But now I am forced to be creative and make scrap afghans for these people. I even worry about running out of yarn to make my "Basic Hat Patterns" with. I need to stop thinking tonight. Feeling so defeated tonight isn't healthy.

Mom, I miss you tonight!

Crochet work to complete!

Crochet List

1. Write pattern down for new BHP. Needs to go up soon!

2. Need a "Caring Hat" for a breast cancer patient!

3. Need to photograph my other squares and put up details!

Dog Sweater!

I arrived at nursing home this morning and one of the cna's passed me in the hallway. I thought she asked me if I could make her doll a sweater. After a few minutes of conversation I realized she was saying dog! Whoops! Crochet questions should only be asked when I am awake! I told her I would get back to her on that!

Happy New Year To Me!

I can't believe I started the new year off with being very sick! I had so many plans! I'm making a mental note to add getting very healthy this year to the list of things I need to do! Having to leave mom alone at the nursing
home is so difficult to deal with!

Back to work!

In the mail Friday I received a baby shower invitation! Yuckers! It doesn't fit my schedule to go not to mention I'm only going to know 3 well maybe 4 people there! My niece is pregant! They will expect a homemade gift so when I feel like moving again I will search for a baby afghan pattern!

I have a confession to make! My grandmother could knock out a pair of booties in a very short amount of time! Me? I am bootee challenged! I have never ever made a pair in my life! I have tried but I was completely frustrated!
